OCB 1630L Marine Ecology Lab
This course, the lab component for OCB-1630, includes two all-day field trips to survey local flora and fauna by exploring the nearshore environment such as estuaries, intertidal zone, mangrove, seagrass and beach plant communities, and progresses to address an understanding of ecology and biodiversity of the marine environment.
At the Fort Pierce Inlet, students explore intertidal communities, study mud flats, sand flats, rocky intertidal and dune communities. During an all-day kayak field trip to Sebastian Inlet, the diversity, adaptations and survival strategies of marine life in various nearshore communities such as mangrove and seagrass communities is also explored.
While in the field students learn how to collect organisms for further physiological studies in the laboratory.
